Air source heat pumps for technology buffs

As we’ve become more environmentally conscious, engineers have naturally looked for new, sustainable ways to evolve heating technology to make use of natural resources that help us come away from burning fossil fuels.

Even on the coldest of days, there is heat to be found in the air. The technology within the air source heat pump takes this heat and puts it to work around your home!

But how does it actually work? This article by the Guardian describes the heat pump as a refrigerator in reverse, while the Energy Savings Trust has captured the basics in these four easy-to-understand steps.

Vanessa had a heat pump installed at her home in Silchester and says: “It’s totally normal to be daunted by new technologies. It can feel like a leap of faith, but understanding how they work is a great first step. You soon realise it’s a relatively simple concept, and that helps to build trust in its reliability.”

You can read Vanessa’s full experience, including what happens when it’s really cold outside, here.
